Australian Show Features Biola Students

Two students discuss abstinence on Australian television show

‘Weekend Sunrise,’ an Australian television show, similar to ‘Good Morning America,’ interviewed two Biola University students, which aired live Sunday morning in Australia.

Senior Josh Saenz and junior Lindsey Minerva were interviewed via satellite at the show’s Los Angeles studio about the community standards agreement every Biola student signs upon entering Biola. Saenz and Minerva answered questions regarding sexual and substance abstinence.

“I love Christ so living a lifestyle that honors him isn’t something I view as a chore,” said Minerva. “Its like any relationship that you have.”

Saenz and Minerva both discussed ‘saying no’ during the college experience where abstinence is unusual.

“Saying no allows us to have different kinds of relationships…it creates a different kind of character within us,” said Minerva.

Saenz responded to the question of temptation.

“We don’t pretend to be these perfect people,” said Saenz. “…With everyone [following] that community standard together, it makes it easier to do well and endure on in the difficult times.”
