Biola Film History in the Making
Biola University Alumnus Scott Derrickson has received a great deal of media buzz for his new film, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," out in theaters September 9. Unlike most horror films that deal with gory plotlines, Derrickson's film explores themes of faith, evil, and spirituality.
This film stars big names such as Tom Wilkinson and Laura Linney. It is based on the true story of a Catholic priest charged with negligence when his attempt to exorcise a demon out of a girl ultimately results in her death.
In an interview with the Christian Post Derrickson explained his reason behind making the film.
“My intention is to make a film that provokes people to ask themselves what they believe about evil, what they believe about the demonic. Inevitably when you ask questions like that you end up asking yourself what you think about God, what you think about morality, and what you think about the nature of memory and truth."
