Underwater Art Show

On Saturday, May 14th, Students in Murray McMillan's Installation and Performance Art class transformed the Biola pool into an underwater art exhibit. A first-ever display of its kind, students were asked to submit works that explored the potential of what you can create around water.
Christof Meyer, president of the Student Art League at Biola said, "Underwater art is not exactly mainstream, but it does carry with it a significant aesthetic baggage. Putting things underwater implies a lack of air and that creates a crisp separation from your everyday world." The concept of "underwater art" allows many to question the purpose and meaning of art.
Among exhibits shown were an underwater piece using artistic lighting and elements from nature, a fabric wall, bridge performance, underwater sculpture, and a diving board performance piece. Featured images of the submitted pieces appear on the left.
These works are an small example of what the students in the new trans-media emphasis are creating. For more information about student art exhibitions, please contac the Art Department at: 562.944.0351 x.4807.
