Author of "The Prayer of Jabez" Speaks at Chapel
"The Prayer of Jabez" author, Dr. Bruce Wilkinson, spoke to the Biola community during chapel on Sept. 13. Wilkinson is the former president of Walk Thru the Bible Ministries and author of numerous books. Wilkinson has lived in South Africa the last two years and leads a new organization, Dream for Africa, focusing on the continent's four biggest problems: poverty, hunger, orphans and AIDS.
When Wilkinson last spoke in a Biola chapel in 1978, his message inspired more than 100 students and faculty to charter a plane to Trinidad on a mission trip known as "Operation Jabez," which is mentioned in the book, "The Prayer of Jabez."
Twenty-six years later, Wilkinson again inspired Biola students to get involved. Wilkinson is currently organizing a massive educational campaign to bring thousands of college students from the United States to join students from Africa to talk about abstinence in the schools of South Africa. Wilkinson challenged Biola students to join the 4-week campaign scheduled for the summer of 2005.
Approximately 400 students committed to spend one month next summer in Africa encouraging high school students to abstain from sex to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
