Biola Team Place in National Debate Tournament
Junior Joey Mavity and freshman Benjamin Rohrs placed 11th at the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence (NPTE). The tournament was held at UC Berkeley March 13 through 14.
Overall, Rohrs was the 16th rated individual speaker at the tournament and Mavity was rated as the 21st speaker. Both students are enrolled in the Torrey Honors Institute, Biola's honors program.
This is the first time in the history of Biola's forensics department that a Biola debate team has qualified for the NPTE.
The tournament only accepts the top 48 of 1,000 teams in the U.S. Through their annual organized debate tournaments, the NPTE works to provide opportunities for the nation's finest college-level debate teams to showcase their talent in parliamentary debating.
