Library Instruction Lab Use Policy
Instruction Use
- The Biola University Instruction Lab is designated primarily for library instruction and can only be reserved for classes taught by library faculty.
- The class schedule for library instruction will be posted by the entrance. The Lab will be closed to non-class members while classes are in session.
General Use
- When it is not being used for library instruction, it may be used by all library patrons as a computer lab.
- The following software is available on all the workstations:
- First Class/BUBBS
- Digital Locker
- Internet Explorer
- Microsoft Office 2003: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, InfoPath
- General multimedia programs
- Various CD-ROMs
- Access is provided at all workstations to all library subscription databases.
- The Instruction Lab is open whenever the library is open.
- The computers will shut down 15 minutes before the library closes. Work should be saved when the warning messages appear to prevent loss of data.
- Occasionally, the Instruction Lab may be closed without prior warning due to necessary maintenance.
Rules
- Food and drink (including food or drink in covered containers) are not allowed in the Instruction Lab.
- Modifying system software or hardware configurations is prohibited.
- Installing or downloading software is prohibited.
- Lab users who intentionally abuse or damage computer equipment or furniture will be reported to Campus Safety.
- Lab users who disrupt the work of others will be asked to leave.
Downloading
- Any file may be saved by uploading to your First Class account, DigitalLocker account, saving to a floppy disk, USB flash drive or the designated "Save Here" (S:) drive.
- For students’ privacy and protection, all files saved to the “Save Here” drive are erased every Monday morning, 15 minutes before the library's opening time.
Printing
- Print stations are located behind the Reference Desk, in the Instruction Lab, and on the Lower Level.
- Black & white printing is $0.10 per page, and color printing is $0.40 per page.
- The Library uses a copy and print system called DigiNet, which utilizes online accounts to track copying and printing.
- To add money to your DigiNet account, login with your NetID and Portal password at the print station behind the Reference Desk, or the transfer station in the Copy Room on the middle level. Then use your DigiNet account to print and copy throughout the library.
- If you don't know your NetID, you can find it by clicking on the Forgot NetID link in the Portal website.
- Please ask the Reference Services Assistant who is situated at the rear of the Reference Circle for help with printing or copying.
Help
- If you have questions about research or other library issues, ask for help at the Reference Desk.
- The library does not provide assistance in the use of Microsoft Office 2003 software.
