Men's Tennis Returns LA MIRADA, CALIF. — The addition of six new tennis courts and the planned construction for two more has given Biola University Athletic Director, Dr. Dave Holmquist, reason to add an intercollegiate men’s tennis program that will begin during the 2006-2007 academic year. “With the renewed enthusiasm for the sport of tennis and the increase of facilities, a men’s tennis team seems to be the next logical step,” Holmquist said. The new men’s tennis team at Biola will be Title IX compliant and the search for a part-time head tennis coach for the men’s team will begin immediately.. Jim Emerson Named Men’s Coach at Biola University The Biola University Athletic Department announced the hiring of, Jim Emerson, who was named the head coach for the men’s tennis program that will return to Biola’s campus in the spring of 2007. Emerson was the men’s tennis coach at Biola before the program was cut in 1998 due to Title IX regulations and funding issues. From there he was hired as the assistant coach of the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Whittier College and was then promoted to head coach for three seasons after his first year.
