Mail rules can be used to automate any task you do frequently on FirstClass.
A very useful task these days is a rule for spam.
NOTE: To use mail rules you must have version 7.1 of the FirstClass client. If you do not see Rules on the Collaborate menu
(or no collaborate menu at all) you need to update your FirstClass client to the latest version.
The Spam Rule - Managing spam
You may create a mail rule that will file messages with medium to very high spam accuracy levels to a spam mailbox folder.
- Open your mailbox.
- Create a new folder for spam (or identify a current one for this use) within
your mailbox.
- Choose Collaborate > Rules.
- Select the New Advanced Rule
icon.
- Fill in the form as shown below, manually typing in the header, phrase
and folder name fields ("X-RAV-Bulk:" will not show up in the
pull-down menu).
Type in the name of the folder you identified or created
in step two above.
NOTE: The folder name you type must exactly match the name of that folder.
- Click Save.

It is important to note that the spam rule does not delete spam, it simply
moves mail with spam headers to the spam folder. You must check the folder
periodically to see if legitimate mail was categorized incorrectly and empty
the folder frequently.
The Sent Mail Rule
You may want a rule to automatically sort the mail you send into a sent mail
folder. Follow the steps below:
- Create a folder called Sent Mail in your mailbox
- Create your sent mail rule
- Select or open your mailbox.
- Choose Collaborate > Rules.
- Select the New Send Rule
icon.
- Fill in the form as shown below.
- Click Save.
