CE Advisory Board
Why an Advisory Board?
The members of our Christian Education Department recognize the need to remain current regarding changes and needs in the field of educational ministry. We want to develop and maintain relationships with leaders across a broad spectrum of educational ministries so that we can listen to what they have to say, and adapt our programs and courses to better equip our graduates to effectively minister to a changing world. We want our students to receive the best preparation possibly, and that’s why we need the help of the people who are on our advisory board.
Personal Qualities of a Board Member
- a healthy, vital, and growing personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ
- a love for God and desire to serve Him.
- a maturing spirituality and Christ-likeness of character
- a love for people and a passion for ministry
- an understanding of their gifts and abilities for ministry, and a motivation to use them appropriately in ministry
- a desire and ability to continue to learn and grow as an educational ministry leader
Professional Competencies
- a knowledge of God’s Word and an ability to teach it to others
- personal and interpersonal skills and competencies to enable them to lead and teach others
- an understanding of teaching/learning process that foster spiritual growth
- an ability to disciple and equip others for ministry
- an ability to evaluate and apply relevant research to ministry needs
- an ability to evaluate a ministry setting and apply foundational ministry principles in the development of relevant and effective ministry approaches
- an ability to be a catalyst in the development of ministry initiatives
- administrative and leadership competencies for effective ministry leadership
The Work of the Advisory Board
The Biola Christian Education Advisory Board was established to assist the Christian Education Department with the following types of needs:
- The clarification and development of the identify of our discipline
- Understanding current needs and trends and future directions for educational ministry
- Individual course development and improvement
- The development of our programs to appeal to and serve the needs of ethnic churches
- The ongoing improvement of our academic programs (undergraduate and graduate)
- Outcomes assessment for our programs of study (undergraduate and graduate)
- Identifying internship sites and supervisors for students and placement opportunities for our graduates
- Identifying sources of financial support for selected projects (e.g., scholarships for students, resource development)
- Identifying potential adjunct instructors for selected courses
- Promotional assistance for our program of study
- Promotion in the church community of value and need for Christian education staff
- Exploration of ways Biola and Talbot can serve the community in promoting and strengthening educational ministries
- Identifying potential students for advance study (graduate programs)
- Prayer for the Christian Education Department, faculty and students
