Torrey Berkeley

Frequently asked questions

1. How much does Torrey Berkeley Cost?

You will need to pay Biola University all the fees and tuition for one regular summer school course. In addition, you must pay for your transportation to and from the Westminster House in San Francisco, for your room at the Westminster House, for parking if you bring your car, for necessary books, transportation and entrance fees for various cultural sites, and board. In terms of board, you may choose to coordinate meals together with other students, dine at one of the many fine restaurants in Berkeley, or combine the two depending on your personal preference.

2. What kind of credit do I get for attending Torrey Berkeley?

Torrey Berkeley is a 4-unit class which can satisfy the requirement for any YMDT class numbered 300 or above: Junior and Senior years, or Torrey thesis

3. Can I start Torrey Berkeley a few days late and still get full credit?

Nope, this is an extremely compressed, upper division class, so missing even one day can be like missing several weeks of normal Torrey. However, if you have extenuating circumstances that you think deserve special consideration, schedule a meeting with Dr. Fred Sanders or Dr. Paul Spears and they will try to figure out how you can make up this time.

4. Will my Biola financial aid cover the cost of this course?

The best way to handle this question is by scheduling a meeting with the financial aid department. Many students do receive financial aid for this program but it varies greatly from student to student. Financial aid money left over after the spring semester can usually be used for summer courses but, again, the best way to deal with this situation is by planning ahead and discussing your situation with a financial aid officer.

5. Am I required to bring my own bedding, and what will the housing situation be like?

You are required to bring whatever you need to sleep on a single mattress. Students live, eat, and study together with Torrey faculty in a student housing community just a few steps from the U.C. Berkeley campus. You will stay in college dorm-style rooms and will have a roommate.

6. Will there be internet access in Berkeley?

Yes, and if you have a laptop, it will help you stay up to date. Faculty members post schedule changes, special event opportunities, and bonus reading selections on BUBBS.

7. I still have questions, what is the best way to have them answered?

To hear about this year's curriculum and to have your best chance to get your questions answered, come to an info meeting. Check the Torrey Berkeley folder on BUBBS for your next opportunity.
