Robert A. Briner Impact Award
The Torrey Honors Institute wishes to encourage those persons in the culture that demonstrate the integration of Goodness, Truth, and Beauty in the public square. Conservative Christians need to learn from the left. A filmmaker who espouses politically correct ideologies can be sure to gain plaudits for his work. Christian colleges can help balance the natural drift to the left that results. In this way, we can help impact the culture.
Robert Briner, author of Roaring Lambs, was a major figure in recent discussions of the Christian faith and the arts. He had a particular impact on members of the Biola University community, including members of the Torrey Advisory Board. His thesis advocating Christian involvement in the arts is central to the ideology of the Institute. The winner of the Briner award should:
- Have had a major impact on both Christian and secular audiences in the arts.
- Have a significant body of work.
- Have values consistent with the conservative, Protestant, Christian values of the Institute and the University.
- Have shown significant integration of the liberal arts tradition in his work.
