  1. If I apply to Biola University through ELSP, can I be admitted to the ELSP program first, and then be admitted again to the undergraduate and the graduate program?

    Yes, it is possible to be admitted to Biola’s undergraduate and graduate programs through ELSP. ELSP is another department of Biola. Therefore, once you are accepted to ELSP, you are a Biola undergraduate or graduate student.

  2. Will my I-20 be issued through the ELSP program, Biola Undergraduate program, or the Graduate program?

    Your I-20 can be issued through either the undergraduate program or the graduate program. For undergraduate programs, it will be issued for 5 years; for graduate programs, it will be issued for 4 years or 5 years depending on which program you are in,

  3. Upon completion of ELSP, can I continue my studies in the undergraduate or graduate program without a TOEFL score?

    Yes.

  4. How long is the ELSP program?

    The length of the program depends on your proficiency in English. For English-only intensive courses, there are levels 100, 101, and 102. Each of these levels take one semester to complete. So if you start in level 100 and if you pass, it would take three semesters to complete level 102. If you start in level 101, it would take two semesters, and if you start in level 102, you would only take one semester of intensive English-only courses. While you take level 100-102 classes, you cannot take any regular Biola classes.

  5. How much is the tuition?

    For undergraduate ELSP students, the tuition is $498 per unit. You are required to take 14 units a semester, so the total tuition for one semester will be $6,972. For graduate ELSP students, the tuition is $430 per unit, and the total tuition for one semester will be $6,020.

  6. How much is housing and meals?

    Housing is about $2,000 per semester, and meals cost about $1,800 per semester.

  7. What other expenses, besides tuition, housing, and meals will I need?

    Students without health insurance are required to buy Biola’s health insurance, which costs $594 for 4 months. If you already have a health insurance plan, you can submit a photocopy of the insurance. In addition, textbooks cost about $300 per semester.

  8. Can I start ELSP in the summer?

    Summer classes are not offered for ELSP students.

  9. When do the Fall and Spring semesters begin and end?

    The Fall semester starts at the end of August and ends before Christmas. The Spring semester begins at the end of January and ends before the end of May. One semester is 16 weeks.

  10. Can a non-Christian be admitted to the ELSP program?

    No. Biola does not accept non-Christians.

  11. What scholarships are available for ELSP students?

    Church Matching Scholarship — You can get up to $1,000 from this scholarship per year. If a church sponsors you for $500 per year, the school will match the $500, giving you a total of $1,000. Biola will not match more than $500.

    MK Scholarship — This scholarship is limited to undergraduate students under the age of 24, whose parents are pastors or missionaries. ELSP students can apply after level 102.

    ELSP Scholarship — For ELSP students who are in a difficult financial situation.

    ELSP Spouse Scholarship — If both the husband and wife are fulltime ELSP students taking 100-102 level classes, the spouse can receive a discount of 40% off of full tuition.
