The BOLD Program operates on an academic term system. Each term is 15 weeks in length. Multiple groups begin each year.
Registration/Group Start Dates
- Fall - August through October
- Spring - January through February
- Summer - April through June
Program Length
Courses are held year-round. Although, there is not a break for the summer, there are short breaks for major holidays.
- Organizational Leadership - 18 months
- Psychology - 23 months
A cohort-specific, academic schedule is created for each group, indicating the exact dates the group will meet for all of the major courses.
Faculty
Faculty members who teach in the BOLD Program are full-time Biola faculty or adjunct faculty, who have extensive experience in either non-profit or for-profit organizations.
Instructors are required to notify you of their availability outside of class, either by providing office hours, an email address, and/or a phone number.
If an instructor is late to a class, please wait one hour. [see procedures under Attendance & Coursework Expectations]
Program Requirements
In addition to the required courses and units for the major, students are also required to complete the appropriate courses and units in the following areas:
| General Education (GE) | 39-47 units (will vary) |
| Biblical Studies | 14-17 units |
| Electives | (will vary) |
[see Degree Requirements for details on specific course requirements and units to be taken]
Textbooks & Coursepacks
While every effort is made by the BOLD Program and the instructors to hold down the costs, textbooks are still an expensive undertaking. The estimated cost of texts and coursepacks for the major program averages about $250. per term. Additional texts and coursepacks will need to be purchased for Bible and GE courses. A list of required materials is provided to the student prior to the beginning of each term.
Textbooks and coursepacks for each course are available for purchase from the Biola bookstore one month before the first night of class for that course. To purchase texts and coursepacks go to www.biolabookstore.com or call 1-800-MY-BIOLA (see Appendix 1). Place all orders at least one week in advance of desired delivery date to ensure timely delivery.*
Exercise caution in buying used textbooks from classmates. Texts for particular modules do change periodically (i.e., new editions or different books). Be certain that the book purchased is the one that will be used for the course. This can be determined by referring to the textbook list. For information on refunds for books purchased through the Biola bookstore, see Textbook Return Policy.
The textbook(s) and coursepack(s) for the first course in Organizational Leadership and Psychology will be available for purchase at Registration. For the remaining courses, texts and coursepacks will need to be purchased through the bookstore.
*For all courses, an assignment is typically due the first night of the course. It is your responsibility as a student to ensure that you have purchased your coursepack and textbooks in time to complete the required assignment.
Writing Assessment
Writing and Critical Thinking skills are keys to academic and professional success. In an effort to assist students with these important areas, incoming students may be asked to take an assessment to determine their level of writing and critical thinking.
