Calculating Your GPA

You will need all of your grades received so far and a calculator.

1. Compute your Quality Points for each class (multiply the number of units for the class bythe grade you received).

Units x Grade  =  Quality Points

Quality Points are assigned as follows:

A=4C=2
A-=3.67C-=1.67
B+=3.33D+=1.33
B=3D=1
B-=2.67D-=0.67
C+=2.33F=0

Example: an “A” in a 3 unit class would be worth 12 Quality Points (3 units x 4 points = 12 points)

Example:  a “B+” in a 4 unit class would be worth 13.32 Quality Points (4 units x 3.33 points. = 13.32 points)

2.    Find the sum of the Quality Points for the classes.

3.    Divide this total by the number of units.  This will give you the GPA.

Example:  the following student has completed Term 1 plus two Bible classes:

CourseUnitsGradeEquationQuality Points
Group & Organizational Behavior3A3 x 4=12
Leader & Worldview2A2 x 4=8
Romans 2B2 x 3=6
Management Information Systems3B+3 x 3.33=9.99
Leader & Wisdom2A-2 x 3.67=7.34
Old Testament Survey4B4 x 3=12
Acts3A3 x 4=12
Totals = 19 units67.33 points

67.33 Quality Points ÷ 19 units = 3.543

After Term 1 (and two additional Bible classes), this student's GPA is 3.543.

Note:  Only Biola units count in calculating your GPA.  Units transferred in, correspondence course grades, CLEP or AP scores, Challenge Exam scores, or Credit for Prior Learning units, are not counted.
