Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
The California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes educators to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom. Individuals with this credential are usually offered employment in an elementary classroom setting.
The liberal studies major is the recommended major for a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. However, students with any major may earn this credential with the addition of:
- Teacher preparation coursework;
- 16 units of competency courses;
- Passage of appropriate exams; and
- A minimum grade point average of 2.75.
Students are invited to formally apply to the credential program during LEDU301 Introduction to Teaching, which should be taken during the sophomore year or the first semester of the junior year. Once accepted into Biola's Teacher Preparation Program, students take courses in sequence, which include fieldwork in local schools, Teaching Performance Assessment tasks and student teaching.
