Within just two years, Biola University enables you to go from having little or no teaching experience to being a marketable teacher with a master's degree.
The Master of Arts in Teaching program, paired with a Single Subject Teaching Credential, offers convenient, state-certified training that will prepare you for the challenges and opportunities of teaching at the junior high or high school level.
The program starts with a slate of courses that instruct you how to teach effectively. As you develop a foundation in lesson planning, classroom technology, psychology and reading, you'll receive repeated opportunities to observe firsthand the methods used by other teachers. This teacher preparation coursework is followed by a semester of student teaching, after which you'll receive your California Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential.
From there, you'll finish off the program with five core M.A.T. courses — several of which can be completed online — that focus on everything from intercultural education to philosophy to the life of Christ, the Master Teacher. With the online offerings, students can start their program at Biola, receive their teaching credential, and then finish the program at home through online mentoring. Start here — finish anywhere!
