Teacher speaking in class

The School of Education at Biola University offers a Multiple and Single Subject Clear Credential program for employed teachers who do not have an induction program available to them. The program provides a purposeful, logically sequenced two-year program, structured to extend teachers preparation beyond the preliminary credential by applying the knowledge they acquired during their preliminary credential program through job-embedded experiences. Through an integration of components of Formative Assessment for California Teachers (FACT) with Biola’s program elements, the Clear Credential program offers extended preparation and professional development built upon the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP), and is aligned with the state adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students. As Clear Credential Candidates work through the required documents with the assistance of a site-based mentor, they determine individual strengths and areas for growth that impact subsequent professional development choices. After successful demonstration of professional growth in the Clear Credential program, the candidate will receive Biola University’s formal recommendation to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for their Clear Credential.

The Clear Credential program (normally 12 units) can be taken as a stand-alone program or can be embedded as part of a 15-unit concentration in Biola’s MAT Personalized or MAEd Teaching Emphasis programs.

Students admitted to the Multiple or Single Subject Clear Credential program at Biola University will enroll in a 3-unit course for each of four semesters. After four semesters, the course can be taken additionally without credit. In some cases, candidates may be able to complete the Clear Credential requirements in less than four semesters.

SEED 593: Clear Credential Candidate Professional Development (3 units)This course provides support for the Clear Credential Candidate to evaluate their beginning levels of teaching proficiency, proposed areas in which they wish to grow professionally, and to support them in achieving the professional growth goals identified to improve application of skills and knowledge learned during their preliminary credential program. May be taken up to four times for credit. Fee: $225 online fee and $200 coach fee.
