Transfer Students

Welcome! The Advising Center is available to support you in your transition to Biola. Below are very common questions, answers, terms and links to helpful online resources. If you would like to discuss any of these or other transfer items with an advisor, please make an appointment at x 4576 or drop by The Advising Center.

Academic Advising recognizes the complicated nature of transferring units and planning your academic courses accordingly, and for that reason has an advisor designated specifically for transfer students. Your transfer advisor is either Carrie Stockton or Amanda Winningham (depending on your last name), either of whom will help you primarily with general education courses, Bible courses and general electives. If you have declared a major, you also have a faculty advisor in the respective academic department who will focus on your major course planning. If you are undeclared, the Assistant Director will support you as you explore possible majors.

Helpful terms

Transfer Evaluation: The official form from the Registrar's Office that shows how your courses were evaluated for transfer credit. Bring this with you when you meet with your advisor(s).

Curriculum Chart: The form that outlines the specific graduation requirements based on major, including general education and Bible units.

Degree Audit: The online audit of your academic progress that shows which courses you have completed toward graduation. This is also helpful to bring to your advisor(s).

Substitution Form: This form must be submitted when you want to apply a transfer course toward your major or Bible requirements. It is also used when you want to substitute any course (taken at Biola or off-campus) for another course requirement.

Transfer Evaluator: Janet Saucedo, Office of the Registrar, is the university transfer evaluator. She processes all transfer and substitution requests. She is available for walk-in questions at the Registrar’s Office.

Official Transcript: Biola requires an official transcript for any course that will be transferred for credit. An official transcript is a sealed document with the signature of a university official. The transcript is only considered official when mailed directly to Biola from the institution.

Unofficial Transcript: A copy of a student’s academic records that is either hand-delivered, sent from anyone outside the university, incomplete or lacking a university official’s signature.
